Atmospheric river, a term encompassing different meteorological patterns

چکیده
The study of atmospheric rivers (ARs) and their impacts on extreme precipitation are currently great research interest in view clear socioeconomical implications. However, studies this type generally contain caveats. first these is a meteorological nature, concerned with the diversity different patterns that can be associated phenomenological definition, there no guarantee all so-called ARs follow same one. second concern involves initial definition an AR, which implicitly assumes subtropical origin moisture feeds it. To date, it has been observed many cases ARs, most originates regions at higher latitudes. aim article to open debate two aspects by using well-known examples fit patterns, showing climatology sources feed ARs. Acquiring Atmospheric Meteorological Data
The main sources of meteorological data at high altitudes are radiosondes and Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) data [1]. Mode-select (Mode-S) radars are capable of getting similar readings from aircraft as AMDAR; however, this source of meteorological data has not been used systematically so far. In this article, we analyze the meteorological data obtained by means of Mode-S radars an...
متن کاملFINNISH METEOROLOGICAL INSTITUTE CONTRIBUTIONS No. 44 TEMPORAL AND REGIONAL PATTERNS OF ATMOSPHERIC COMPONENTS AFFECTING ACIDIFICATION IN FINLAND
Acid deposition is caused by the anthropogenic and natural emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The main sources of the anthropogenic emissions are fossil fuel consumption and industrial processes. In this study, the atmospheric compounds affecting the acidification in Finland have been investigated from different viewpoints. The geographical distribution, temporal trends and episo...
متن کاملSimulation of Atmospheric Dispersion of Elevated Releases from Point Sources in Mississippi Gulf Coast with Different Meteorological Data
Atmospheric dispersion calculations are made using the HYSPLIT Particle Dispersion Model for studying the transport and dispersion of air-borne releases from point elevated sources in the Mississippi Gulf coastal region. Simulations are performed separately with three meteorological data sets having different spatial and temporal resolution for a typical summer period in 1-3 June 2006 represent...
متن کاملDifferent patterns of electrical activity lead to long-term potentiation by activating different intracellular pathways.
Deciphering and storing information coded in different firing patterns are important properties of neuronal networks, as they allow organisms to respond and adapt to external and internal events. Here we report that hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons respond to brief bursts of high-frequency stimulation (HFS) and θ burst stimulation (TBS) with long-lasting enhanced responses (long-term potentiat...
متن کاملSUMO: A small unmanned meteorological observer for atmospheric boundary layer research
A new system for atmospheric measurements in the lower troposphere has been developed and successfully tested. The presented Small Unmanned Meteorological Observer (SUMO) is based on a light-weighted commercially available model airplane, equipped with an autopilot and meteorological sensors for temperature, humidity and pressure. During the 5 week field campaign FLOHOF (Flow over and around Ho...
